Depression due to the aftermath of a divorce

On Behalf of | Mar 27, 2020 | Divorce |

The divorce process changes one’s life in many ways. For many people, various positive changes arise as a result of moving on from a marriage that is no longer working out. However, some people experience hardships during and after their divorce. In this post, we will break down a few common challenges that people experience following the end of their marriage and strategies to combat these difficulties (and other concerns that arise, such as depression and other negative emotions). Often, these hardships are minimized by working with an ex to make the divorce process easier.

People become depressed for various reasons after their marriage ends. Some have difficulty adjusting to life on their own, while others lose hope as a result of an unfavorable child custody outcome, difficulty with financial obligations such as alimony and anxiety over relocating out of state with a child or some other family law matter. These hardships highlight how pivotal it is to prepare before getting a divorce. However, even after a divorce is settled there are legal strategies for many people in this position.

Those experiencing emotional turmoil over child support are sometimes able to modify their child support order if significant financial changes affect their ability to make payments on time. Also, parents struggling with certain custody matters are able to pursue legal strategies to improve their circumstances. Sometimes, the divorce process is simply draining and leaves people feeling exhausted and overwhelmed. Many people benefit from finding new hobbies and spending time with friends and family members to combat the emotional toll of a tough divorce.
