Drunk driving accidents continue to plague the state of Texas

On Behalf of | Apr 24, 2019 | Drunk Driving Accidents |

Despite increased public awareness, driving under the influence of alcohol continues to be a problem that plagues not only the state of Texas, but the entire country. To safely operate a motor vehicle, drivers must be alert and focused at all times. Alcohol impairs basic motor skills and delays reaction time, greatly increasing the odds for a crash. Drunk driving accidents kill thousands of people every year.

In San Antonio, residents and police forces recognize that there is a drunk driving problem, and they are keeping more watchful eyes on the road. Reportedly, there have been seven lives lost due to drunk drivers since the first of the year in Bexar County. This is more than double the number compared to the same time last year, reports said.

According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), drunk driving arrests are down while fatal drunk driving accidents are on the rise. In the United States, statistics say there are over 300,000 instances of drinking and driving every day. Why do so many drivers get behind the wheel while intoxicated? In Texas, the blood-alcohol content limit is .8. Many think a change in statewide policy could help to combat drunk driving.

Driving while intoxicated is one of the most dangerous things a person can do. Drunk drivers not only risk their own lives, but they also endanger the lives of all those around them. Victims and families who have been affected by drunk driving accidents may benefit from discussions with a legal representative. Damages from a successful lawsuit could provide much-needed monetary relief.
