Driving while under the influence of alcohol is one of the most dangerous things a person can do. Those who drive while intoxicated endanger the lives of everyone around them. When a person gets behind the wheel while intoxicated, the chances for a crash increase dramatically. In Texas and across the United States, drunk driving accidents claim the lives of at least two people every hour. A recent fatal crash in Denton left one man dead and a driver facing serious charges.
The crash happened along Fort Worth Drive during the overnight hours. According to reports, the driver of a southbound pickup truck drove off the left side of the roadway and into a grass ditch. Reportedly, the driver lost control and slid sideways through the ditch, crashing into the driver’s side of a northbound car.
Reports said the drivers of both vehicles were injured and taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Tragically, the driver of the car was later pronounced dead at the hospital, authorities said. The driver of the pickup truck was intoxicated and arrested on suspicion of intoxication manslaughter, according to police.
Operating a motor vehicle requires constant focus and is something that should never be taken for granted. Alcohol slows normal brain function and greatly reduces reaction time, making driving while intoxicated extremely dangerous. Families in Texas who have suffered injuries or losses in drunk driving accidents may benefit from discussions with a legal representative. A successfully litigated claim could result in much-needed compensation that can be used to cover end-of-life expenses and other monetary losses.
